About your next role

This role is essential for delivering reliable mechanical repairs and maintaining key transport infrastructure for remote communities while driving the workshop's financial and operational performance.

• Diagnose motor vehicle faults using both manual and electronic diagnostic equipment
• Provide accurate estimates and quotes for mechanical repairs and servicing using historical and electronic guidance
• Undertake light vehicle mechanical repairs and routine servicing in line with Australian Consumer Law
• Complete job cards and prepare customer invoices accurately upon completion of work
• Drive budget targets, manage cost controls, and take overall responsibility for the workshop's Profit and Loss outcomes
• Order stock, manage inventory, and conduct regular stock takes of workshop consumables
• Maintain workshop cleanliness and safely dispose of waste products according to approved procedures
• Coach, mentor, and supervise workshop apprentices, mechanics, and administrative personnel
• Maintain a strong commitment to work health and safety while championing organisational values

What we look for

You are a trade-qualified mechanic with strong leadership qualities, commercial acumen, and the communication skills required to thrive in a remote cross-cultural setting.

• Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent trade qualification based on a 4-year apprenticeship
• Proven experience undertaking diagnostics across a wide range of vehicles, particularly 4WD models
• Experience using electronic stock control, job management, and invoicing systems
• Highly effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills adapted for individuals of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
• Capacity to manage P&L outcomes, drive financial targets, and control operational costs
• Willingness to undertake formal training at the Certificate IV level to enhance skills and service offerings
• Prior experience living in a remote Aboriginal community or working within the Northern Territory is highly desirable
• Possession of a Forklift (LF) or Heavy Rigid (HR) license is beneficial
