As part of this major recruitment drive, we are looking to identify an experienced Principal Telecommunications Network Engineer - ETCS for the ETCS Sequence Alliance (Embedded) division.
QR has a current project pipeline of over A$15 billion, and this is expected to grow exponentially in the build-up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.. As a result of this significant investment, the need to secure in-house technical and engineering resources is paramount to support their critical technology rollouts. This includes ensuring that European Train Control Systems (ETCS) telecommunications networks are technically robust and compliant across the network.
What You’ll Do
The Principal Telecommunications Network Engineer - ETCS will provide specialist engineering services and technical leadership to project-based teams. You will be responsible for ensuring that ETCS telecommunications networks are technically robust, commercially optimized, and seamlessly integrated.
- Drive Engineering Excellence: Monitor and influence ETCS Cross River Rail (CRR) telecommunications data system projects, ensuring peak performance levels are achieved at competitive costs. You will ensure that integration into the QR data network never compromises reliability, availability, or maintainability.
- Coach & Inspire: Lead the facilitation of technical training and competency development for telecommunications office and field staff, ensuring a powerful capability uplift and compliance across teams.
- Innovate & Optimize: Ensure technical standards and procedures are meticulously documented and applied in accordance with Queensland Rail Quality Assurance and Improvement Principles.
- Thought Leader: Provide strategic technical leadership and advice to business groups, technical staff, and external stakeholders, ensuring complex network solutions align perfectly with QR's operational requirements.
- Uphold Integrity: Champion strict compliance with professional engineering practices, Queensland Rail standards, and all corporate legal and safety obligations.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a strong implementor in the network engineering space who brings a deep understanding of data communications, commercial acumen, and high-level stakeholder management skills.
- Qualifications: A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) AND ideally current Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status or have the necessary qualifications and experience to attain it. IE: have CEng or Professional Engineer status with Engineers Australia.
- Network Telecoms Experience: Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN data communications, and physical network security applicable to a railway network. You must bring high-level skills in the design, system configuration, construction, auditing, commissioning, integration, and technical support of telecommunications network systems. Candidates would ideally come from a client or contractor background and have strong implementation experience.
- Analytical & Technical Depth: Extensive knowledge of telecommunications performance and integration principles, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to keep ETCS CRR projects operationally effective.
- Commercial Acumen: A proven track record of delivering business-focused technical and professional network solutions that bring tangible commercial value to the business.
- Soft Skills & Influence: High levels of interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills.
