We are seeking a highly experienced, site-driven construction professional for a hands-on Projects Defects Inspector contract role.
While you will have a central CBD base, this position is intentionally structured as a field-based, investigative construction function. You will act as the independent eyes and ears on the ground, supporting project delivery through practical construction methodology insight, rigorous defect identification, and constructability reviews.
If you are a Licensed Builder and Trade Qualified Carpenter with a background in site management and an "investigator mindset," this is an opportunity to step back from the daily grind of site management and use your deep technical knowledge to drive project quality and defect prevention across a diverse portfolio.
In this role, you will provide independent, field-informed insights to improve overall project quality. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Site Inspections & Verification: Conducting Pre-Practical Completion (Pre-PC) and Practical Completion (PC) walkthroughs, and independently verifying construction quality and completion status.
Defect Management: Driving defect identification, latent condition assessment, rectification, and Defect Liability Period (DLP) review activities.
Risk Identification: Early identification of buildability, coordination, interface, and sequencing risks (including WHS considerations).
Evidence-Based Reporting: Preparing clear, concise, and highly defensible site reports to support critical project decision-making.
This role requires a seasoned veteran of the construction industry.
Mandatory Requirements:
Trade Qualified Carpenter
Active Builder’s License
15–25 years of on-site construction experience
Minimum 10 years operating in a Site Supervisory, Foreman, or Site Manager capacity.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
Demonstrated multi-discipline construction exposure across education, commercial, residential, civil, refurbishment, and staged delivery projects.
Exceptional capability in defect identification, latent condition assessment, and close-out.
Proven ability to interpret complex drawings and pinpoint coordination, sequencing, and buildability risks.
Strong working knowledge of NCC 2025, Australian Standards, and relevant Government/Education Technical Standards.
Computer literacy, with solid competency in the Microsoft Office Suite (including MS Project).
Willingness to undertake significant Queensland-wide travel, including regional site work.
Current White Card (Construction Industry Induction).
Current Blue Card (Working with Children) or the ability to obtain one immediately.
A self-motivated starter capable of working independently to drive outcomes.
Highly Desirable:
Strong experience utilizing QA systems, defect tracking software, and close-out verification processes.
Deep exposure to Pre-PC / PC inspections and DLP management processes.
An investigative, detail-oriented mindset aligned with major government delivery models.
