About the Opportunity
Are you a skilled handyperson or maintenance professional looking for a consistent, reliable 1-day-a-week role?
We are seeking a proactive and safety-focused School Maintenance Officer to join a supportive school environment based in Frankston. In this role, you will take pride in keeping the school facility, buildings, and surrounding grounds safe, presentable, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors.
This position is ideal for someone seeking steady Friday hours with an attractive hourly rate, combining hands-on general repairs, basic groundskeeping, and routine safety checks.
Key Responsibilities
...- General Building & handyperson Maintenance:
- Minor wall patching, repairs, and touch-up painting.
- Fixing door locks, handles, door closers, tap washers, and small furniture.
- General handyperson tasks (hanging whiteboards, pictures, TV mounting, assembling furniture).
- Prompt removal of graffiti and scuff marks.
- Grounds & Exterior Care:
- Basic gardening, weeding, mowing, light pruning, and green waste disposal.
- Clearing paths, access points, balconies, and outdoor seating areas.
- Contractor Coordination:
- Greeting, supervising, and liaising with external trades and contractors visiting site.
- Setting up temporary safety barriers/signage prior to maintenance or emergency works.
- Weekly Site & Safety Inspections:
- Conducting weekly facility walkthroughs to identify and resolve potential safety/tripping hazards.
- Checking gates, common doors, carpark drainage, and basic HVAC temperature controls.
- Monitoring for evidence of pests and ensuring maintenance storage areas remain neat and organized.
What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on Trade / handyperson Experience: Demonstrated experience in general building maintenance, minor repairs, and basic grounds care.
- Safety & Detail Focused: Strong OHS awareness with an eye for identifying potential safety hazards in a high-foot-traffic environment.
- Communication & Reliability: Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with school staff and trade contractors.
- Self-Motivated: Ability to work autonomously and complete a weekly task checklist efficiently.
- Compliance Checks:
- Valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) (or willingness to obtain).
- Construction Induction White Card (preferred).
