Randstad Education is seeking a resilient and dedicated SEMH Instructor to join one of our partner specialist provisions in Colchester. This is an impactful role designed for a professional who can lead a classroom and deliver specialised content to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as those with Complex Needs or ASD.
This position is ideal for an experienced SEND Instructor or a highly skilled Unqualified Teacher with a proven track record of classroom leadership. You will be responsible for creating a stable, nurturing, and high-achieving environment where students who face significant barriers to learning can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Leadership: Take full responsibility for a class group, planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
- Team Coordination: Manage and deploy a team of Teaching Assistants effectively to facilitate 1:1 and small group interventions.
- Progress Tracking: Use specialised assessment frameworks to monitor and record academic, social, and emotional development.
- Behaviour Management: Implement bespoke de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support plans to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the SENCO, parents, and external multidisciplinary teams (therapists, social workers) to ensure holistic support.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience working with SEMH, EBD, or within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) setting.
- Skills: Strong classroom management and the ability to remain calm and objective when faced with challenging behaviours.
- Resilience: A "child-first" mindset with the patience to build rapport with vulnerable young people.
- Qualifications: While QTS is often preferred, we welcome applications from experienced Instructors with senior-level expertise in SEND.
- Compliance: Must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one) and provide satisfactory professional references.
