If you are passionate about providing a structured, nurturing, and success-driven learning environment where every milestone is celebrated, we want to hear from you.
The Opportunity
A fantastic, immensely rewarding opening exists for an experienced Teacher (QTS) to lead a class or key learning group within a well-regarded, specialist SEN school in Cambridge. This crucial role involves teaching pupils across a specific age range (e.g., Primary or Secondary) who have complex and varied Special Educational Needs, which may include:

Your contribution will be central to helping students engage meaningfully with a highly tailored, multi-sensory curriculum, develop vital communication and independent living skills, and achieve personal progress goals. You will be instrumental in creating a calm, predictable, and engaging classroom environment, often managing a strong team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) effectively.
Core Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for planning, preparing, and delivering a highly differentiated and relevant curriculum tailored to the specific developmental stage and learning styles of each pupil, directly addressing targets outlined in their EHCPs.
- Conduct continuous and detailed assessment, focusing on small steps of progress, using appropriate tools (e.g., P-Scales or EHCP-aligned progress measures) to inform planning and accurately report on development.
- Establish and maintain a consistent, positive, and therapeutic classroom environment, utilising appropriate strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, or other structured aids.
- Lead, motivate, and direct the work of a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants (TAs)/LSAs, ensuring their support is targeted, effective, and compliant with individual pupil needs.
- Collaborate effectively with in-house and external therapists (e.g., Speech & Language, Occupational Therapy) to integrate therapeutic goals into the daily teaching and learning.
- Maintain accurate, professional records of pupil progress, incidents, and sensory needs for EHCP reviews and multi-agency professional discussions.
- Foster strong partnerships with parents and carers, ensuring consistent communication and shared strategies for student development.
Essential Profile
- Possession of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory.
- Proven experience teaching students with complex SEN (such as ASC, SLD, PMLD, or SEMH) within a specialist or highly inclusive setting.
- A genuine understanding of and experience with structured intervention techniques and a commitment to communication methods beyond verbal instruction.
- Expertise in adapting curriculum content to make it accessible and relevant for diverse learners, including non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils.
- High levels of patience, empathy, resilience, and flexibility, coupled with a calm and consistent approach to routines and management.
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work confidently and proactively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
