Cambridge
Are you ready to be the person who makes a student feel seen, heard, and understood every single day?
Do you have the compassion to celebrate the "inch-stones" and the resilience to provide a calm, steadying presence when a student is navigating a world that feels overwhelming?
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a well-regarded SEN School in Cambridge. This is a long-term, full-time role within a vibrant learning community dedicated to students with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges. If you are looking for a career where your emotional intelligence is just as valuable as your professional skills, this is the role for you.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Mentorship: Deliver tailored, sensory-friendly activities designed by the Class Teacher to meet the specific cognitive and emotional needs of individual students.
- Communication Support: Act as a bridge for students using PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables, ensuring every student has a functional way to express themselves.
- Sensory Regulation: Identify environmental triggers and lead "brain breaks" or sensory circuit sessions to help students maintain a state of calm and focus.
- Progress Tracking: Help record and evidence small-step progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, providing vital feedback for student reviews.
- Dignified Personal Care: Assist with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene with the utmost respect, ensuring the student's comfort and wellbeing at all times.
- Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly with the Class Teacher and therapists to provide a consistent, high-standard "wrap-around" support system.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to stay grounded and supportive during periods of student dysregulation or challenging behaviour.
- Proactive Intuition: You have a "sixth sense" for when a student needs a change of pace or a sensory break before their frustration escalates.
- Reliability: Our students rely on routine; we need a dedicated professional who will be a consistent, dependable figure in their school life.
- Transferable Experience: Backgrounds in care, youth work, psychology, or sports coaching are highly beneficial, though a genuine heart for SEN is the most important requirement.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one via Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?

- Cambridge Stability: Secure a consistent, full-time role in a school that values staff development and student dignity.
