About the Role
This is a profoundly rewarding role for a compassionate and resilient SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA). You will work closely with our dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) and class teachers to provide tailored academic and emotional support. The role involves supporting pupils across various key stages (primarily KS1 and KS2) who present with a wide range of needs, including communication and interaction, cognition and learning, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH). This position is crucial in helping pupils achieve their highest potential and participate fully in school life.

What We're Looking For
- Are you driven by a deep desire to champion the progress and well-being of every student, irrespective of the barriers they face?
- Do you possess the flexibility and initiative to adapt support strategies instantly to meet a child's unique and evolving needs?
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in an educational or care setting.
- Excellent understanding and awareness of common barriers to learning, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), or SEMH needs.
- The ability to implement agreed-upon individual education plans (IEPs) or support plans with fidelity and enthusiasm.
- Proven skills in supporting the development of social communication and emotional regulation.
- GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths, demonstrating strong foundational skills.
- A reflective practice approach, always seeking to improve and learn new support techniques.
- Utmost commitment to confidentiality and the school's robust safeguarding policies.
- Resilience, a sense of humour, and exceptional teamwork skills.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Providing immediate and ongoing in-class support to help pupils access the mainstream curriculum and participate actively.
- Delivering pre-planned 1:1 and small-group interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, social skills, or emotional development, as directed by the teacher/SENDCo.
- Using diverse communication aids and strategies (e.g., visual timetables, now-and-next boards, basic Makaton or PECs) to enhance pupil understanding.
- Diligently maintaining accurate records of pupil observations, behaviour incidents, and academic progress for review meetings.
- Assisting with the modification and creation of accessible learning resources to match pupil needs.
- Fostering the independence and self-esteem of supported pupils, gradually withdrawing support where appropriate.
- Assisting with the supervision of pupils during non-lesson times (e.g., lunch and break times) to ensure safety and positive social interaction.
