Primary Objectives of the Role
As the Senior Design Engineer, you will provide high-level technical expertise and quality assurance to ensure civil infrastructure projects are safe, compliant, and highly constructible. You will lead a small, dedicated design team and coordinate complex design-to-delivery programs from concept through to formal construction handover.
Team Leadership: Provide technical direction, workload allocation, and structured review/sign-off for a team of two Civil Design Engineers.
Design & Delivery Assurance: Manage end-to-end design programs (including roads, intersections, drainage, and traffic management systems), integrating input from internal stakeholders and external utilities.
Procurement & Consultant Management: Prepare technical design scopes, manage consultant engagements, monitor contractor performance, and provide input into tender evaluations.
Funding & Compliance: Identify project risks and opportunities while incorporating vital civil grant funding programs (such as Black Spot, MRRG, and Road to Recovery).
Value Engineering: Apply whole-of-life asset reasoning and cost-effective value engineering at concept, detailed, and pre-tender stages.
An Engineers Australia accredited Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (plus significant relevant experience) and membership eligibility.
Extensive practical experience in civil engineering infrastructure design (roads, traffic management, and stormwater drainage systems).
Demonstrated ability to lead design resources, coordinate workloads, and technical peer-review design outputs.
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines (AUSTROADS, MRWA, IPWEA, and Australian Standards).
Proven experience in procurement, tender preparation, and consultant contract management.
A valid C Class Australian Driver's Licence and the ability to obtain a National Police Certificate.
