Senior / Principal Town Planner (Contract) Location: Brisbane CBD / Hybrid Duration: 2–3 Month Contract Position Overview Randstad are partnering with a prominent state government land use and development agency to appoint a Senior (Min 5 years experince) or Principal (Min 7 yeras experience) Planner on a short-term contract basis. Operating within a fast-paced and high-impact environment, the successful candidate will play a critical role in accelerating projects that sit at the intersection of strategic planning, urban design, and infrastructure delivery. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise to active Priority Development Areas (PDAs), contributing to the delivery of housing and economic outcomes across Queensland. - Strategic Planning: Review, amend, and progress development schemes, interim land use plans, and sub-precinct master plans.
- Urban Design Integration: Assess complex built-form outcomes and developer guidelines to ensure high-quality placemaking and optimal development yield.
- Infrastructure Planning: Coordinate with internal economists and external state utilities to ensure seamless alignment between land use planning, infrastructure charging, and delivery schedules.
- Stakeholder Management: Liaise autonomously with state government agencies, local councils, and private developers to resolve planning bottlenecks and facilitate timely outcomes.
The Ideal Candidate To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Experience Profile: Minimum of 5 years (Senior) or 7+ years (Principal) of postgraduate experience working within the Queensland planning system (State Government, Local Council, or specialized private consultancy).
- Technical Toolkit: Demonstrated capability across strategic policy, master planning, urban design assessment, and infrastructure networks.
- Agility & Communication: Proven ability to step into an active project team, manage ambiguity, and deliver high-turnaround outcomes in a fast-paced sprint environment.
It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
