About the opportunity
As a specialist in Stormwater and Hydrology, you will be the technical lead on a variety of urban and rural projects. You will work closely with in-house planners and surveyors to take projects from initial site feasibility through to final design and construction.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Hydrological Modelling: Leading the design and analysis of complex stormwater networks, including detention systems, water quality treatment (WSUD), and overland flow paths.
- Flood Risk Management: Conducting flood studies and providing technical advice for residential and commercial developments.
- Integrated Design: Collaborating with civil designers and land surveyors to ensure drainage solutions are practical, sustainable, and compliant with local council requirements.
- Technical Reporting: Compiling high-quality technical reports, catchment analyses, and specifications for various authorities and private clients.
- Environmental Stewardship: Ensuring all designs meet modern environmental standards, protecting Tasmania’s unique natural waterways.
About you
You are a technical specialist who enjoys the variety offered by a multidisciplinary environment, where you are involved with a mix of complex drainage and water management.
To be successful, you will likely have:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in civil engineering with a heavy focus on stormwater and hydraulic modelling.
- Software Proficiency: Strong skills in industry-standard software (such as DRAINS, MUSIC, HEC-RAS, or similar).
- Local Knowledge: A solid understanding of Australian Standards and Tasmanian-specific council and authority requirements for stormwater management.
- Professional Mindset: A relevant degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; membership with Engineers Australia (or eligibility) is highly regarded.
- Collaboration: The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to planners, clients, and government stakeholders clearly.
