About the job:
Within a cross-site and cross-functional environment, the interdisciplinary CHU & CB Integration & Testing sub-chapter—part of the RDS System & Solution Development chapter—is responsible for integrating hardware, software, consumables, and reagents. This includes the verification and internal validation of diagnostic instruments (both hardware and software) to deliver innovative, high-quality, and reliable medical devices that meet our customers' needs.
As a System Integration Engineer, you are responsible for performing assigned verification and validation activities in specific areas. This includes the definition, maintenance, and execution of test cases in close coordination with test management. In this role, you are a member of a high-performing, cross-site development team (Rotkreuz and St. Cugat) and work closely with the product definition team, hardware development, and other project-related functions across all phases of system development.
The ideal candidate:
Holds a completed laboratory technician apprenticeship or a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in a relevant technical or medical field, along with at least 2-3 years of experience in a routine diagnostic laboratory. He or she combines technical understanding and an interest in mechanics with quality awareness (including GxP), and ideally possesses experience in hardware/software testing as well as knowledge in the areas of coagulation or serum. The profile is rounded out by very good German and English skills (at least B2 level), team spirit, creativity, and a solution-oriented way of working.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- The Detective Instinct: You conduct feasibility studies and perform "root-cause investigations" to get to the bottom of technical issues.
- Precision in Series: You develop test methods for system functions with a focus on hardware. You create, maintain, and execute hardware test cases throughout the entire product lifecycle—from early development to product maintenance.
- Adopting the Customer’s Perspective: You test systems by considering real-world customer workflows, which you know inside out thanks to your laboratory experience.
- Conscientiousness: You meticulously document results and defects, ensuring that all Verification & Validation (V&V) activities comply with internal processes and regulatory requirements.
- Laboratory Responsibility: You keep our laboratory equipment in top shape to ensure that tests can run under optimal conditions at all times.
Must Haves:
- Completed Laboratory Technician apprenticeship or a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in a relevant technical or medical field, such as Medical Technology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- At least 2-3 years of professional experience in a routine diagnostic laboratory.
- Interest in technology and mechanics.
- Technical Flair: You are curious and interested in how technology—specifically diagnostic instruments—works. You are fascinated by the interaction between device hardware and software.
- Diligent Work Ethic: You work with extreme conscientiousness in formal (regulated). environments and maintain focus even during repetitive or complex experimental/test series.
- Proficiency in German and English, both written and spoken (at least Level B2 for both).
- Creativity and Unconventional Problem Solving ("Thinking out of the box"): A willingness to move beyond established patterns to overcome complex challenges.
Nice to have:
- Initial experience in hardware/software testing (at the instrument and system level)
- Experience in the Coagulation or Serum work areas.
- Knowledge of GxP (Good Practice) standards.
- Experience in experimental design (DoE) and data analysis.
