We are partnering with our Victorian based University client, located in Bundoora East, to recruit a dedicated Technical Officer for their STEM College. This is a crucial full-time, onsite role supporting the operational activities within their Manufacturing and Fabrication Workspaces.
The Role
Under general guidance of the Technical Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the day-to-day operational activities within the Manufacturing and Fabrication Workspaces, with a primary focus on Engineering Fabrication and Welding equipment. You will provide expert advice to users of the spaces and ensure designated areas are operating effectively and safely in compliance with legislative requirements and our Victorian based University client's policies and procedures. You may be required to coordinate operations in one or more spaces.
Key Responsibilities
... - Oversee and maintain the daily operational activities within Manufacturing and Fabrication workspaces, primarily focusing on Engineering Fabrication and Welding equipment.
- Develop, maintain, and implement required documentation, including but not limited to SOPs, SWIs, Equipment RAs, and Chemical Registers.
- Provide proficient technical advice, training, and inductions for all users, ensuring timely, client-centric support.
- Manage and maintain infrastructure (equipment, instruments, tools, etc.), ensuring they are bookable, well-maintained, and regularly serviced, including developing maintenance and preventative maintenance plans.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and review safe work processes and risk assessments in designated areas, ensuring operating procedures and working environments comply with OH&S and legislative requirements.
- Ensure laboratories and workspaces are maintained in a safe, clean, working, and operational state at all times.
- Assist with planning for the acquisition, installation, and commissioning of complex equipment.
What You Will Bring
- Experience and knowledge in the routine operation, maintenance, and training of various forms of Welding and Fabrication equipment, including general engineering and manufacturing practices.
- Proven knowledge and experience in Welding and Metal Fabrication within Engineering workspace settings.
- Proven workshop operations and maintenance experience, preferably in a teaching or research environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry regulations or standards.
- Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be highly organised and work autonomously and in a team.
- Effective oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse range of people.
Qualifications (Mandatory)
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering - Sheet Metal, Fitting, Welding, and Fabrication or a related discipline/industry and relevant experience.
- A valid Working with Children Check.
