About the Role This is a full-time, permanent remote residential position in an isolated Aboriginal Community in Arnhem Land. Living here delivers rugged natural beauty and deep cultural immersion it requires self-reliance, independence, and grit (access is via unsealed roads or light aircraft).
Are you a natural tinkerer, handy with a wrench, or experienced in groundskeeping and small engine repairs? Whether you’re ditching the 9-to-5 or stepping out of retirement, this role is about rolling up your sleeves, passing on hard trade skills, and immersing yourself in Yolŋu Culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Site & Gear Coordination: Oversee site logistics, maintain small engines (mowers, power tools), and keep workshops clean, safe, and fully stocked.
- Hands-On Mentoring: Work side-by-side with local Yolŋu Supervisors and participants, teaching practical skills in groundskeeping, mechanics, tool safety, and construction projects.
- Logistics & Safety: Execute site purchasing, stock ordering, safety briefings, and operational reporting.
- Community Enterprise: Build strong, respectful partnerships with Elders and Traditional Owners to deliver tough, community-led projects.
What You Bring
- Practical background in trades, groundskeeping, mechanical repairs, or heavy outdoor operations.
- A drive to mentor, coach, and build capability in others.
- Solid cultural awareness and the resilience to thrive in remote environments.
- A practical, resource-smart approach to drive participant engagement in resource-poor conditions—out-of-the-box problem-solving is essential.
- Unrestricted Manual Driver’s Licence (mandatory).
- NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) & First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain).
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) and an understanding of tracking operational outcomes and KPIs.
