About your new role
The APS5 and APS6 Policy Officers will play a key role in driving high-priority Commonwealth initiatives to end family, domestic, and sexual violence across Australia. Operating in a fast-paced environment, you will undertake complex research and analysis to synthesise evidence into clear policy recommendations, whilst drafting high-quality government documentation, including Cabinet submissions, ministerial briefs, policy proposals, and meeting papers. You will actively collaborate with diverse stakeholders across Commonwealth, state, and territory governments, portfolio agencies, and service providers to support cross-jurisdictional reform and implementation under the national Action Plans. Additionally, you will contribute to strategic governance, program reporting, and risk management, delivering practical solutions to advance critical social policy outcomes.
What you will need to exceed
... - Familiarity with the operational frameworks, trauma-informed principles, and policy landscapes surrounding FDSV prevention, early intervention, response, and recovery.
- Understanding the service delivery ecosystem, non-government organisation (NGO) landscapes, and the lived-experience perspectives that inform national policy reform.
- Backgrounds in adjacent social sectors such as child wellbeing, housing/homelessness, legal assistance, or gender equality that intersect with women's safety outcomes.
- Ability to navigate the political, operational, and funding dynamics between federal, state, and territory governments to achieve consensus on national standards and Action Plans.
- Deep familiarisation with Commonwealth Cabinet processes, including drafting complex Cabinet Submissions, Ministerial Briefs, and Budget Statements.
- Proven ability to rapidly digest complex, ambiguous information and translate high-level ministerial intent into actionable policy, briefs, and parliamentary correspondence under tight deadlines.
