Are you a hands-on creator looking for a better work-life balance? Randstad Education is seeking a versatile D&T Technician / Instructor for a vibrant secondary academy in Romford.
This is a unique four-day-a-week role, perfect for a skilled professional who enjoys the classroom and the workshop but wants their Fridays back. Starting as a temporary member of staff after the May half-term, there is a clear pathway to a permanent contract starting in September 2026 for the right candidate.
The Role
This role bridges the gap between technical support and classroom delivery. You will be the heartbeat of the workshop four days a week, ensuring a safe environment while also stepping up to lead student learning.
Technical Support (Mon-Thu): Preparing materials (wood, metal, plastics) and maintaining machinery such as bandsaws, sanders, and CAD/CAM equipment.
Instructional Hours: Taking the lead on specific D&T lessons, guiding students through practical projects and theory.
Health & Safety: Maintaining strict safety standards and conducting routine risk assessments.
Departmental Support: Working closely with the D&T faculty to manage resources and prepare for GCSE/BTEC practical assessments.
What We're Looking For
We need a proactive individual who is comfortable with both workshop machinery and student engagement.
Experience: Previous experience in a school workshop or similar role
Skillset: Proficiency in using standard workshop machinery; knowledge of 3D printing or laser cutting is a plus.
Instructional Ability: Confidence in leading a classroom and demonstrating practical skills to groups of young people.
Availability: Ability to commit to a consistent Monday to Thursday schedule.
Note: An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role. Randstad can assist with this if you are not currently on the update service.
