Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain core DNS infrastructure using BIND and PowerDNS across global environments.
Manage and optimize global traffic routing and name resolution to ensure high availability and low latency.
Automate DNS operations using Python, Ansible, and Terraform — including record management, service restarts, and validation.
...
Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain DNS reliability and performance.
Troubleshoot complex DNS, caching, and resolution issues across multiple platforms and environments.
Collaborate with network, DevOps, and cloud engineering teams to integrate DNS with broader infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.
Participate in on-call rotations to support production services and ensure uptime for mission-critical systems.
Required Skills & Expertise
DNS Expertise:
Deep understanding of DNS hierarchy, record types (SOA, NS, A, CNAME, etc.), and upstream resolution.
Knowledge of root hint servers, recursive vs authoritative resolution, and DNS caching behavior.
Experience operating BIND and PowerDNS in production environments.
Automation & Scripting:
Proficiency in Python (intermediate to advanced) — capable of scripting tasks such as DNS record management, rolling restarts, and validation.
Hands-on experience with Ansible and Terraform for configuration and infrastructure automation.
Experience with Perl or Go is a plus.
Operating Systems & Cloud:
Strong background in RHEL or similar Unix/Linux systems.
Practical experience deploying and managing workloads in AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Networking Fundamentals:
Comprehensive understanding of OSI Layers 1–7, TCP/IP, subnetting, and traffic flow.
Ability to describe and troubleshoot the full flow of a curl https://www.google.com request — covering:
DNS Resolution (query flow, recursion, caching)
TLS Negotiation (handshake, certificate validation, encryption)
HTTP Request/Response (headers, codes, caching behavior)
Problem-Solving & Ownership:
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues.
High sense of ownership, accountability, and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK stack).
Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Exposure to proxy and caching systems (ATS, Nginx, Envoy) is an advantage.
Prior experience managing large-scale, distributed DNS or edge infrastructure.
