summary
Our Client is a premier, state-backed critical infrastructure utility handling essential resource management across Victoria. Operating a highly distributed on-premise network that spans over 120 key technology hubs, they ensure continuous operational delivery to millions of people. They pride themselves on structured governance, rigorous compliance, and giving our senior experts the autonomy to lead without micro-management.
We are seeking an Infrastructure Lead to step into a governance and technical oversight capacity. This is not a hands-on role. Instead, you will act as the technical anchor, steering group, and guardian of our enterprise infrastructure environment.
Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Manager, you will collaborate with four peer domain leads and directly interface with their Managed Service Provider (MSP) partners to ensure architectural alignment, technical remediation, and strict adherence to technical documentation.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Technical Specialist who is ready to step away from day-to-day configuration and move into a high-impact leadership and governance role. There are no direct reports, offering you a clean entry point into strategic IT management.
Technical Governance: Provide strict oversight, strategic guidance, and technical compliance monitoring over their server, storage, database support, and virtualisation landscapes.
Documentation & Annual Audits: Critically review, update, and validate comprehensive technical documentation every 12 months, cross-checking documentation accuracy against the live, physical on-prem environment.
Vendor & MSP Management: Review technical writings and documentation deliverable from the supporting partners, ensuring clarity, compliance, and mitigation of technical nuances.
Team Uplift: Act as a technical cross-over lead to uplift capabilities, bridge skills gaps, and mentor junior or outsourced teams across the wider infrastructure unit.
While you won't be configuring these systems yourself, you must possess deep technical knowledge across:
Operating Systems: Enterprise Windows Server Environments & Linux Red Hat instances.
Directory Services: Strong Active Directory knowledge.
Virtualisation & Hypervisors: VMware (v7/v8 with upcoming migration to v9) and vSAN.
Hardware & Storage: NetApp SANs and HPE hardware.
Core Awareness: Crossover understanding of Cisco Networking and Cloud architectures (AWS/Azure) to collaborate effectively with dedicated domain leads.
Experience Baseline: Minimum of 5+ years of dedicated technical experience within a robust Microsoft/Windows enterprise environment. You must have enough depth under your belt to comfortably audit external engineering work.
On-Premise Expertise: Comfortable managing a highly distributed, physical multi-site network architecture (not looking for purely cloud-native profiles).
Communication: Flawless technical writing, documentation review, and communication skills to successfully bridge technical gaps with international vendors.
Compliance Mindset: Ability to comfortably operate under strict government frameworks and compliance guidelines (such as the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act / SOCI Act). A standard police check will be required.
Hybrid Work: Minimum of 3 days per week
If you have the 5+ years of Microsoft infrastructure depth required, meet the hybrid work requirements, please submit your CV today for immediate consideration.
