The role: MO6 Medical Advisor
Location: Sydney or Remote (must be willing to travel at own cost once a month)
Start Date: End of January 2026
Contract Length: of 12 months with the possibility of extension
Hours: Part-time with hybrid model - Work anywhere between 2-4 days per week
... Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert clinical advice particularly in relation to First Nations health care, to ensure that the Agency’s work draws on the latest evidence in cultural safety and is relevant to clinical practice
- Provide clinical leadership into the development and implementation of cultural safety standards and guidance suitable for inclusion in policies and programs
- Take responsibility for specific projects including research, needs assessment, strategic planning and evaluation related to the activities of the Commission
- Work co-operatively and share appropriate information with relevant medical, industry and consumer stakeholders to maintain and enhance the quality of policy advice and support to the Commission in relation to the safety and quality
- Collaborate with teams across the Aegncy to ensure alignment with other work programs and strategic priorities
- . Represent the Agency through participation in, or chairing of, national inter government committees, advisory groups and projects. Promote the work of the Agency through participation at relevant meetings and events.
Skills and knowledge required
- Superior clinical skills and qualifications applicable to the area of evidence-based practice, primary and community healthcare (including general practice), acute or specialist care
- Extensive knowledge of the Australian healthcare system, including sound understanding of current health care safety and quality issues for First Nations people, and relevant stakeholders and interest groups
- Extensive knowledge of current literature on cultural safety in healthcare and/or other specific topics
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to negotiate, influence and grow productive working relationships with clinical experts, stakeholders, community and consumer groups
- High level research and analytical skills with the ability to scan internal and external environments, understand risk and inform strategy
- Ability to apply lateral thinking and identify innovative solutions
- High level project management and/or policy development skills
- High level verbal and written communication skills including excellent presentation skills
- Sound decision-making skills, incorporating initiative and professional judgement
- Appreciation of the Commission’s role within the whole of government agenda.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) is essential
- Extensive clinical experience in First Nations health and/or general or specialist practice supporting First Nations communities
- Clinical experience at a senior level
- Experience in health safety and quality
- Good experience in writing for and presenting to a variety of clinical and non clinical audiences and in different formats and settings
- Project management and/or policy development experience at a state or national level
- Strong experience in cultivating productive working relationship both internally and externally.
