The Payroll Manager will support the delivery of accurate and timely UK payroll services across a growing client portfolio. Working closely with UK head of payroll and coordinating with team members in India, you will help manage day to day workflow, provide guidance to team, and ensure high quality service delivery. This role is hands-on and ideal for someone looking to progress their career while helping to shape and support a developing payroll team.
Principal Responsibilities:
Team & Workload Management
- Support the UK Payroll Lead with daily operational planning, allocating tasks, and monitoring workload across the team.
- Ensure deadlines are met by managing priorities effectively and helping team organise their workload.
- Provide ongoing support and coaching to growing team to help them develop accuracy, confidence, and efficiency.
Client Onboarding & Support
- Assist with the onboarding of new clients, working collaboratively UK payroll Lead to gather data, set up payrolls, and ensure smooth transitions.
- Maintain clear communication with clients throughout onboarding and BAU processes, helping to set realistic expectations and ensuring alignment of processes.
- Flag potential issues or process gaps early and contribute to practical solutions.
Training and Development:
- Assist in delivering training to new starters and junior colleagues, ensuring clear understanding of systems, processes, and compliance.
- Help maintain training documentation, checklists, and best practice guides to support consistent knowledge sharing across the team.
Customer Service Excellence:
- Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly responding to email queries and calls
- Build strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs and tailoring solutions accordingly
- Ensure client satisfaction through effective problem-solving, efficient issue resolution, and escalation handling
Payroll Processing and Technical Support:
- Oversee and support the end-to-end processing of UK payrolls for a range of clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Provide first line guidance to team members on payroll calculations, statutory payments, deductions, and UK legislation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and contribute ideas to enhance efficiency and automation.
- Stay up to date with UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements, sharing relevant updates with the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience as senior payroll position in a UK payroll outsourcing setting with some level of change management experience
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of UK payroll laws, regulations, and compliances
- Proficiency in using payroll software(s) and related tools
- Understanding of accounting principles would be a distinct advantage
