Job Title: Registered Manager
Location: Berwick upon Tweed, North East England
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday (with flexibility to meet service needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call duties)
Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum + Performance Related Pay up to £6,000 p.a.
Reports To: Responsible Individual and Senior Leadership Team
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the culture, practice, and standards of a brand-new children's home from the ground up. As the Registered Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the leadership, operational management, and strict regulatory compliance of the home. You will lead and inspire a brand-new staff team to deliver exceptional, child-centred care that aligns with Ofsted regulations and ensures positive outcomes for young people.
Regulatory & Compliance
Register with Ofsted as the Registered Manager for the home and maintain this registration.
Ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
Directly support and embed all Ofsted Quality Standards, including: Purpose of Care, Children's Views, Education, Enjoyment, Health, Relationships, Protection, Leadership, and Care Planning.
Lead preparation for, management of, and robust responses to Ofsted inspections.
Ensure safeguarding, child protection, and safer recruitment practices are thoroughly embedded and effective.
Leadership & Team Management
Provide strong, values-led, visible leadership, acting as a positive role model for staff and residents.
Recruit, lead, supervise, and appraise the staff team, including deputies and senior team members.
Foster an organizational culture centered on accountability, reflection, and continuous improvement.
Actively promote staff wellbeing, emotional resilience, and ongoing professional development.
Care & Outcomes
Ensure the delivery of care is consistently trauma-informed, therapeutic, and person-centred.
Actively promote children's emotional wellbeing, physical safety, education, and long-term life chances.
Ensure that children's voices are genuinely heard and meaningfully influence their individual care planning.
Operational & Financial Management
Oversee the day-to-day running, safety, and administration of the residential home.
Manage staff rotas and resource deployment effectively to meet the evolving needs of the children.
Manage budgets and financial resources efficiently.
Build and maintain strong partnership networks with local authorities, education providers, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), or an equivalent recognized qualification.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience in a management or deputy management role within an Ofsted-regulated children's residential care setting.
Clinical/Care Experience: Significant experience working directly with children and young people who present complex emotional and behavioural needs.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of safeguarding frameworks, safer recruitment, and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.
Compliance: Ability to meet Ofsted's suitability requirements, including passing the fit person interview.
Licence: Full UK driving licence.
Vetting: Satisfactory outcome on an Enhanced DBS check with children's and adults' barred lists prior to start date.
