We are urgently seeking a dedicated Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant to become a central member of a highly supportive and specialised SEN School community located in the Newmarket area of Suffolk. The Opportunity:
A fantastic, full-time, long-term opening is available for a skilled Teaching Assistant to work within a highly-regarded specialist provision near Newmarket. This critical role involves providing dedicated support to pupils across various age ranges who have complex and varied Special Educational Needs, which may include:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Associated communication difficulties.
Your consistent, full-time contribution will be vital in helping students engage meaningfully with their tailored curriculum, manage sensory input, develop positive communication methods, and achieve the personal goals set out in their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Core Responsibilities
- Provide essential, consistent 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex SEN throughout the school day, adjusting teaching aids and the environment to match individual needs.
- Collaborate closely with the Class Teacher to prepare and implement differentiated, engaging learning activities that align with EHCP objectives.
- Confidently use and embed specialised communication and structure aids, such as visual schedules, social stories, or PECS, as directed by therapists or the Class Teacher.
- Implement the school's Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies calmly and consistently, contributing to a stable, predictable, and therapeutic classroom atmosphere.
- Assist pupils with essential care routines, mobility, and personal organisation as required (full training will be provided).
- Maintain professional, detailed records of pupil interactions, progress against targets, and incidents for EHCP reviews and professional meetings.
- Engage proactively with the wider support team (including therapists and external agencies) to ensure integrated care for the students.
Essential Profile
- Direct experience supporting children or young people with complex SEN (such as ASC, SLD, or SEMH) is highly advantageous.
- A strong working knowledge of, or a commitment to training in, structured intervention techniques and sensory regulation strategies.
- Exceptional levels of patience, commitment, adaptability, and emotional resilience.
- Excellent, clear communication skills, with the capacity to contribute effectively within a multi-disciplinary team setting.
- A proven ability to commit to a consistent, full-time timetable.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
