About the role: As the sole Legal Counsel for our Mainland China operations, you will act as an independent and strategic legal advisor for all commercial transactions, compliance matters, and key projects in the region. Reporting directly to the Global Legal Hub, you will be fully integrated into our international legal team. This role is highly autonomous, requiring a strong business partner who can ensure legal compliance while facilitating the continued growth of our China business.
What you’ll do:

- Regulatory & Trade Compliance: Manage and maintain necessary operational licenses and regulatory filings (e.g., value-added telecommunications licenses). Provide expert counsel on import/export regulations, customs clearance, and cross-border trade matters.
- Data Protection: Lead the company's data protection practices in China. Update privacy policies, manage Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA), and advise the business on data compliance issues during daily operations, aligning with the Group's global privacy framework.
- Corporate Governance: Manage general corporate matters for all legal entities in China. This includes overseeing registrations, annual filings, board resolutions, government communications, and the proper governance of company seals.
- Projects and Disputes: Partner with the business on strategic commercial projects. Manage any legal proceedings involving the company and coordinate with external counsel when necessary.
Who you are:
- Hold a law degree from a recognized university in a common law jurisdiction or PRC law.
- Have at least 10 years of experience. In-house experience in a multinational corporation is mandatory. Experience in retail, e-commerce, or digital platforms is highly preferred.
- Specialized Knowledge: Deep familiarity with general corporate advisory, customs/import-export compliance, data privacy laws, employment law, and complex commercial agreements in Mainland China.
- Language Skills: Exceptional bilingual abilities (English and Chinese). Fluent spoken English is an absolute must, as you will be communicating daily with overseas stakeholders and reporting to expat leaders.
- Working Style: Proactive, highly adaptable, and detail-oriented. You thrive in an independent contributor role within a fast-paced, cross-border environment.
