Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – ASRS Division Lead
About the Role
We are building a next-generation Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) to redefine how goods are stored, moved, and fulfilled at scale. As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – ASRS Division Lead, you will own the end-to-end mechanical design vision for our ASRS product portfolio and lead its execution from concept to production.
...
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role. You will architect core mechanisms, establish design standards, review complex analyses, and collaborate closely with infrastructure,
electrical, electronics, automation, and manufacturing teams to deliver a robust, scalable, and globally competitive ASRS platform.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the mechanical design of the complete ASRS product line including shuttles, lifts, conveyors, storage interfaces, and transfer mechanisms.
• Define mechanical architecture, system-level concepts, and design standards for the ASRS division.
• Lead and review the design of high-speed mechanisms such as belt drives, linear motion systems, grippers, escapements, and synchronized assemblies.
• Drive design decisions balancing throughput, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability.
• Integrate outputs from multiple engineering teams into a unified, production-ready system.
Engineering Analysis & Validation
• Oversee stress, fatigue, lifecycle, and safety factor calculations for critical components.
• Guide and review FEA (static, fatigue, vibration, and dynamic analysis where required).
• Lead DFMEA, design reviews, and technical risk assessments.
• Plan and execute mechanical validation programs including endurance, overload, misalignment, and safety testing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with infrastructure and structural teams on frames, mounts, and building/container interfaces.
• Collaborate with electrical and automation teams on motor sizing, motion profiles, synchronization, and safety.
• Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, and scalable for production.
Leadership & Team Development
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing mechanical design team.
• Review designs, provide structured feedback, and raise overall engineering maturity.
• Foster a culture of ownership, rigor, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• 8–10+ years of experience in mechanical design with strong exposure to Special Purpose Machines (SPM) or high-speed automation systems.
• Proven ownership of complex machines from concept through production.
• Strong experience with servo-driven systems, conveyors, timing belts, linear motion, and safety mechanisms.
Technical Skills
• Strong fundamentals in stress analysis, fatigue, lifecycle estimation, and safety factors.
• Practical experience with FEA or leading analysis teams.
• Equipment sizing expertise: motors, gearboxes, belts, rails, bearings.
• Exposure to pneumatic systems and automation sensors.
• Experience with PLM/PDM systems and structured project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with ASRS, warehousing automation, or material handling systems.
• Exposure to compliant or passive mechanical solutions.
• Experience working in startup or fast-paced product environments.
Mindset
• A leader obsessed with mechanisms, tolerances, and long-term reliability.
• Strategic yet hands-on, equally comfortable reviewing FEA or sketching concepts.
• Relentless in pursuing world-class design quality and mentoring teams.
