Dear Candidte
We are looking for SMP Supervisor for Gujarat location.
Your Role:
The SMP Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of structural components, mechanical equipment, and piping systems. In the refractory context, this specifically involves the steel structures and mechanical assemblies that house and move molten metal (such as ladles, tundishes, and flow control mechanisms).
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Supervision & Execution
- Installation Management: Oversee the assembly and installation of SMP packages, including refractory-lined vessels, slide gate systems, and gas purging equipment.
- Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings (P&IDs, Isometrics, and Structural layouts) to guide work crews.
- Refractory Integration: Coordinate with refractory masons to ensure that mechanical housings and anchors are correctly positioned before lining application.
2. Technical Maintenance
- Metal Flow Control: Supervise the maintenance of mechanical systems that regulate metal flow (e.g., stopper rods and nozzle changers).
- Piping & Hydraulics: Ensure the integrity of high-pressure hydraulic and pneumatic lines used for automated metal flow control and cooling systems.
- Shutdown Planning: Lead SMP activities during plant turnarounds or furnace relining projects to minimize production downtime.
3. Quality & Safety (HSE)
- Safety Leadership: Enforce strict adherence to PPE and "Hot Work" protocols required in metal-processing environments.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct inspections on welds, torque settings, and alignment to prevent catastrophic leaks or equipment failure.
- Toolbox Talks: Conduct daily safety briefings focused on the specific risks of high-temperature operations.
4. Resource & Team Management
- Manpower Allocation: Manage a team of welders, fitters, and riggers, ensuring they are productive and meet schedule milestones.
- Inventory Control: Monitor the usage of consumables (welding rods, gaskets, spare mechanical parts) and initiate procurement requests.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Category
Requirements
Education
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant Trade Qualification (e.g., Fitter/Welder).
Experience
2 to 4 years in heavy industry, ideally in Foundries, Steel Mills, or Refractory Services.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in SMP construction, welding standards (ASME/AWS), and hydraulic systems.
Software
Basic proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with ERP (SAP/Oracle) or Primavera P6 is a plus.
Physical
Ability to work in extreme heat environments and at heights.
Core Competencies
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures under time pressure to avoid "freeze-ups" in metal flow.
- Communication: Clear coordination with Project Engineers and Production Managers to align on timelines.
- Leadership: Strong ability to mentor junior technicians and hold contractors accountable to quality standards.
