Senior Legal Counsel – Global Tech (Tokyo)Join an Industry-Leading Tech Innovator | Drive High-Impact International OperationsAbout the RoleOur client is a premier global technology leader expanding its core footprint in Japan. Known for driving digital transformation across global markets, they are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Tokyo team.In this role, you will act as a core business partner, advising cross-functional leadership on complex legal, regulatory, and commercial matters. You will spearhead international commercial transactions, navigate evolving tech regulations, and safeguard the firm's growth trajectory across Japan and the broader APAC region.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Advisory: Deliver high-level, business-oriented legal advice across global tech operations, emerging technologies, and data privacy frameworks.Commercial Contracting: Structure, draft, and negotiate complex international commercial agreements, cloud services contracts, IP licensing, and vendor partnerships.Regulatory Compliance & Risk: Partner with product, engineering, and regional leadership to ensure full compliance with Japanese (e.g., APPI, Telecommunications Business Act) and international regulations.Cross-Border Collaboration: Work closely with international legal teams and business executives to align localized strategies with global corporate governance.Industry Leadership: Proactively track developments in AI, privacy, and digital policy to help the organization mitigate risks and leverage market opportunities.QualificationsLegal Qualification: Qualification as a Japanese Lawyer (Bengoshi) or registered Foreign Lawyer in Japan (Gaikokuho Jimu Bengoshi / admitted in a common law/relevant jurisdiction).Relevant Experience: 7+ years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably combining top-tier law firm background with in-house legal expertise in a fast-paced technology environment.Contractual Mastery: Exceptional skill in drafting and negotiating complex, multi-jurisdictional commercial and technology agreements.Language Proficiency: Native or Fluent Japanese and Business/Fluent English (both required for handling cross-border business and local regulatory stakeholders).Mindset: Agile, solution-oriented, and comfortable making business-enabling decisions in an ambiguous, rapidly evolving tech environment.What We OfferCompetitive Compensation: Top-tier base salary, annual performance bonus, and comprehensive employee benefits.Career Growth: Direct exposure to executive leadership with clear potential for regional team leadership.Innovative Culture: Collaborative, inclusive, and modern work culture with hybrid/flexible working arrangements.High Impact: Direct involvement in cutting-edge technology initiatives shaping the future of the digital economy.How to ApplyReady to step into a high-visibility legal leadership role with a global technology leader?
