Role Overview
We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Production Manager to lead our heavy machinery machine shop. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing high-precision manufacturing processes, including large-scale CNC machining, Horizontal Machining Centers (HVM), and Vertical Machining Centers (VMC).
The ideal candidate will bring a deep technical understanding of heavy-duty component fabrication and a proven track record of managing large teams in a high-stakes, safety-conscious environment. You will be tasked with optimizing throughput, ensuring uncompromising quality, and driving operational excellence through Lean and Kaizen methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Leadership & Strategy
Oversee daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring production targets for HVM, VMC, and large-scale CNC lines are met or exceeded.
Develop and execute production schedules that optimize machine utilization and labor efficiency.
Lead the transition from raw materials to finished heavy-duty components, managing complex setups and long cycle times typical of heavy machinery.
2. Technical Oversight
Provide expert guidance on CNC programming, tooling selection, and machining strategies for large-scale workpieces.
Troubleshoot complex technical issues on the shop floor to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance to ensure the reliability and precision of high-value assets.
3. Operational Excellence
Implement and sustain Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, SMED, TPM) to reduce waste and improve flow.
Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), Scrap Rates, and On-Time Delivery (OTD).
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machining tolerances and reduce cycle times.
4. Safety & Quality Assurance
Maintain a rigorous safety culture, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and environmental regulations.
Ensure all parts meet stringent quality standards and tolerances required for heavy machinery applications.
Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for any production deviations.
Required Qualifications & Skills

Technical Expertise:
Direct experience with Heavy Machinery components (e.g., engine blocks, large frames, gears).
Deep knowledge of HVM (Horizontal) and VMC (Vertical) machining centers.
Proficiency in CNC controls (Fanuc, Siemens, or Mazatrol) and CAD/CAM interfaces.
Leadership: Proven ability to manage a diverse workforce of 50+ machinists, technicians, and supervisors.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex blueprints and technical specifications.
Preferred Attributes
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
Strong financial acumen for managing departmental budgets and CAPEX projects.
