Ipswich
Are you ready to be the person who makes a breakthrough possible for a child today?
We are seeking a high-energy, resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful SEN School in Ipswich. This school is a dedicated environment for pupils with Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and various sensory needs. We are looking for a "champion" for these students-someone who can look past challenging moments to find the potential underneath, using patience and creativity to help every child feel successful.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Student Mentorship: Work closely with assigned pupils, using their personal interests (whether it's trains, dinosaurs, or drawing) to keep them engaged in their learning.
- Positive Regulation: Act as a co-regulator for students who may become overwhelmed, using de-escalation techniques and sensory breaks to keep the environment calm.
- Communication Support: Help bridge the communication gap by using Makaton, PECS, and visual schedules to give students a voice and a sense of routine.
- Academic Scaffolding: Assist the Class Teacher by breaking down lessons into "small steps," celebrating every tiny victory along the way.
- Sensory Integration: Support students during sensory play and movement breaks, ensuring they have the physical input they need to stay focused.
- EHCP Contribution: Keep accurate, objective notes on student progress and behavioural triggers to assist with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) updates.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Patience: The ability to stay calm and grounded, even when a student is having a difficult day.
- Proactive Attitude: You don't wait for instructions; you see a student in need and step in with a smile and a helping hand.
- Consistent Reliability: Our students thrive on routine, so we need a dedicated professional who can commit to a full-time, long-term schedule.
- Relevant Experience: Backgrounds in care, youth work, sports coaching, or previous school experience are highly valued, but a genuine passion for inclusion is the most important trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently via Randstad).
