You will report to the Maintenance Manager whereby you will ensure that all mechanical equipment associated with both our Water and Wastewater assets are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods.You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant equipment. Using a Mobile App for work instructions and providing status updates you will follow a robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects, mechanical fault finding and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.Working outside, with no one day being the same provides a very interesting working environment. You will be presented with unique challenges whether it's using your expertise to diagnose a fault or working with your team to prevent plant damage.You will be a fully mobile worker covering the Durham region, starting and finishing at home, maintaining our Water and Wastewater Treatment Works and pumping stations. This role boasts about its great, closely-knit team where you will never be short of support. You'll also provide technical advice, coupled with training support for apprentices. Please note you will participate in a stand-by rota following the relevant induction and training periods.Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.About youYou'll be a time served mechanical technician (fitter) educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in mechanical engineering. You'll be able to demonstrate a maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work. The successful candidate will be competent in reading and finding faults from mechanical drawings, identify the source and replacing faulty components. Ideally, you'll be familiar with maintaining large pumps and other mechanical handling equipment.Having a hands-on practical approach and an interest in investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role. You'll have excellent communication skills both written and verbally and be a strong team player. Having an excellent understanding of Health and Safety is also essentialA full, UK driving license is essential and you will have full responsibility and use of a company van during working hours.
