About the role
The Product Owner is accountable for maximising the value delivered by the product, acting as the primary decision‑maker for product priorities and scope within an agile delivery environment.
This role works closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and cross‑functional delivery teams to translate product strategy and customer needs into clear, actionable backlog items. The Product Owner owns and continuously refines the product backlog, ensuring that work is appropriately prioritised to deliver the highest value outcomes.
By providing clear direction, rapid decision‑making, and ongoing collaboration, the Product Owner enables efficient, transparent product development and ensures delivery of high‑quality, user‑centred digital products aligned to business objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring items are clearly defined, appropriately prioritised, and aligned with product strategy, customer needs, and business objectives.
• Drive value based prioritisation, making informed trade offs between scope, timing, risk, and technical sustainability to maximise outcomes rather than outputs.
• Partner closely with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate product vision and business goals into actionable backlog items and delivery priorities.
• Provide clarity and direction to agile delivery teams, defining acceptance criteria, answering questions, and making timely decisions to maintain momentum and focus.
• Engage with customers, users, and stakeholders to understand needs, validate assumptions, and incorporate feedback into iterative product improvements.
• Support effective Agile delivery, collaborating with Delivery Leads, Scrum Masters, and teams to plan and execute work that delivers incremental value.
• Measure and evaluate product outcomes, using data, insights, and feedback to assess feature performance and inform future prioritisation.
• Ensure quality and release readiness, collaborating with UX, engineering, and QA to confirm delivered functionality meets expectations and intended outcomes.
• Continuously improve product and delivery effectiveness, using learnings from delivery, metrics, and user feedback to enhance backlog health and value flow.
Skills & Experience:
Experience
• Demonstrated experience as a Product Owner or in a similar Agile product role, typically with 3+ years working in product led delivery environments.
• Hands on experience operating within Agile delivery models, such as Scrum or Kanban, contributing to predictable, iterative delivery of product increments.
• Proven experience owning and managing a product backlog, prioritising work based on business value, customer outcomes, and technical considerations.
• Experience collaborating within cross functional delivery teams, including engineering, design, QA, delivery, and business stakeholders.
• Experience translating product strategy and requirements into clear user stories, including defining acceptance criteria and supporting delivery teams through implementation.
• Practical experience using product delivery and backlog management tools, such as Jira or equivalent platforms.
• Experience working in digital, SaaS, or technology enabled product environments, delivering customer facing or internal products.
• Experience measuring and evaluating product outcomes, using KPIs and insights to inform prioritisation and refinement.
• Exposure to customer discovery and feedback practices, including user interviews, usability testing, and iterative validation.
• Experience contributing across the product lifecycle, from discovery through delivery, launch, and continuous improvement.
Key Competencies
• Value focused decision making, with the ability to prioritise work that maximises customer and business value while considering delivery capacity and product sustainability.
• Strong analytical and problem solving capability, able to identify issues, assess trade offs, and make informed product decisions.
• Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to convey product intent, priorities, and requirements to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative working style, supporting effective partnership across cross functional teams and stakeholder groups.
• Customer centred mindset, consistently advocating for user needs and outcomes throughout the product lifecycle.
• Data informed approach, using qualitative and quantitative insights to guide prioritisation and measure success.
• Adaptability and resilience, comfortable operating in fast paced, changing delivery environments.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, enabling effective juggling of multiple priorities and stakeholder expectations.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in product delivery.
• Agile or product related certifications are desirable, such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner, or similar.
• Familiarity with product analytics tools (e.g. Microsoft Clarity, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude) is advantageous.
