Responsibilities
End-to-End Design Leadership: Define and lead UX projects, facilitating design workshops, stakeholder alignment sessions, and product visioning exercises.
User Research & Synthesis: Manage the entire user research lifecycle, from participant recruitment to synthesis. Conduct interviews and surveys to translate insights into sitemaps, user flows, and journey maps.
Interface Design: Create visually appealing and functional GUI designs optimized for various devices and interfaces, including digital displays and creative media.
Prototyping & Iteration: Design and deliver wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma and Canvas. Rapidly test and iterate designs based on user feedback.
Strategic Decision Making: Make core design decisions related to product features and functionality, ensuring they address identified design problems with elegant solutions.
System Integration: Work within established design systems, such as the Ontario Design System, to ensure consistency and compliance with digital service standards.
Accessibility: Design with a focus on accessibility, ensuring all deliverables meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA specialists, and business leads, to ensure technical feasibility and project success.
Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years as a UX Designer, UI Designer, or Interactive Designer, with a portfolio showcasing web and mobile application design.
Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Figma, Canvas, and other modern prototyping tools.
Research Expertise: Proven ability to translate user interaction and performance data into intuitive user experiences.
Communication: Exceptional ability to convey complex design concepts and development processes to non-technical stakeholders through documentation and presentations.
Complex Problem Solving: Demonstrated experience navigating complex design challenges, particularly those involving legacy systems and nuanced approval relationships.
Design Systems: Direct experience working with the Ontario Design System or similar comprehensive design frameworks.
Soft Skills: Strong team player with a track record of meeting tight deadlines and managing competing priorities in a collaborative environment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Prior experience in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or the broader public sector.
Knowledge of accessibility testing and the Digital Service Standard.
Experience designing with an emphasis on the emotional aspects of the human experience.
